The amount of growth and progress that the electricians acumen has exhibited over the city works in some recent months is totally worth heaps of praise. Just after that, I happened to read about the interesting innovation that has been marking cable lights off late. These guys are planning mobile lights that create marvelous light illusions.

President Obama held meetings with Chinese leaders in Washington yesterday to highlight the importance of cooperation between the two countries, both of which share the title of world’s largest greenhouse gas emitter. Obama discussed the need to shift from foreign oil dependence, and he expressed the need “to act in concert” with China and with “common sense” in the switch to low-carbon energy sources.

Ever since I got my first iPhone Ive had it jailbroken. The original reason being that I did not want to extend my ATT contract. The secondary reason being that I wanted apps on my phone. Remember when Apple said having apps on thr phone could bring down cell towers only to introduce them themselves a few months later? Well that was then. Now we have the app store and I have purchased more than $50 worth of apps helping Apples profit margins that much more.

SPECIAL BULLETIN NATIONAL HEALTH SCARE By Rick Joyner When I read the brief on what was contained in the National Health Care bill that is now being presented before Congress, I could not believe I was reading something that was actually being considered in the United States of America. This is not about money or government mismanagement—this is about something far more diabolical than that. As incomprehensible as it may seem, this is about euthanasia, the power to determine who lives or dies in America.

Note: This is a post I wrote on TechCrunch Europe a few days ago. Online password management startup Passpack , recently announced it’s follow-on funding. The company raised €350,000 in June 2008 and now previous investor Zernike Meta Ventures is topping that with additional €74,000. This new capital injection will enable the company to finish the development of their product and start to actively market it. There is a great blog post about this new round in wich they explain what the funds will be used for.

In a recent Business Week online article, Peter Yared , founder and CEO of San Francisco startup Transpond , describes ” The Failure of Commercial Open Source Software “. While Yared makes a case that the commercial open source software business hasn’t lived up to the hype that it will “change the world,” he reaches too far in declaring its failure. A more appropriate conclusion would be to recognize that commercial open source only recently reached broad acceptance as a business strategy and is on a strong growth trajectory.

The U.S. could successfully cut its non-transportation energy use by up to 23 percent by 2020 through energy efficiency initiatives alone, argues a report just issued by consulting firm McKinsey & Co. That differential could save the country as much as $130 billion and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1.1 gigatons every year. That being said, getting the U.S. in shape to actually effect these changes could be quite costly. The firm estimates that $520 billion would need to be invested first to put proper efficiency measures in place.

Such garments could help physicians keep an constant eye on rehabilitating patients in a strategy described as “remote health monitoring with (a) wearable non-invasive mobile system.” The so-called “Healthware” research was supported with €990,000 in funding from the EU’s eTEN programme.

Topics: notting hill, carnival, houses, ladbrooke grove The Carnival is the biggest public festival in London, Caribbean in origin and inspiration but increasingly international and multi-racial in spirit and fact. It originated in 1966 as an unofficial response to race riots in Notting Hill in the later 1950s, as a simple street parade with music. In one sense that is still its basis, but now the Carnival is a huge show on the August Bank Holiday weekend, with childrens costume parades on the Sunday and adults on the Monday, from morning till night.

You haven’t received loans or venture capital – you’ve used savings, you’ve reinvested your profits, and you’ve rolled up your sleeves and done just about everything yourself – to get your business up and running. But there’s a point at which where a ‘bootstrapping’ mentality can actually inhibit the growth of your business. This is particularly so when it comes to delegating and outsourcing.

Four years ago, on the TED stage, I announced a company I was working with at the time called Odeo. And because of that announcement, we got a big article in the New York Times, which led to more press, which led to more attention, and me deciding to become CEO of that company — whereas I was just an adviser — and raising a round of venture capital and ramping up hiring. One of the guys I hired was an engineer named Jack Dorsey, and a year later we were trying to decide which way to go with Odeo, and Jack presented an idea he’d been tinkering around with for a number of years that was based around sending simple status updates to friends.

(Editor’s Note: This post comes to us from Robert E. Hall of Stanford University and the National Bureau of Economic Research, and Susan E. Woodward of Sand Hill Econometrics, Inc.)An entrepreneur’s primary incentive is ownership of a substantial share of the enterprise that commercializes the entrepreneur’s ideas. An inescapable consequence of this incentive is the entrepreneur’s exposure to the idiosyncratic risk of the enterprise. Diversification or insurance to ameliorate the risk would necessarily weaken the incentives for success.

Remember back in February when Google got all protective over Microsoft’s bid for Yahoo!? Their line was that the bid was a bad idea and the gripe was that (in a whiny voice) ”It’s about preserving the underlying principles of the Internet: openness and innovation”. Well, now it’s official, so Google can go weep in the corner for poor Yahoo!- they’ve set-up a 10 year search and advertising deal with Microsoft. Actually Yahoo! won’t be that poor, with an annual profit projection of $500 billion and estimated savings of $275 million.

The 10-year deal announced Wednesday gives Microsoft access to the Internet’s second-largest search engine audience, adding a potentially potent weapon to the software maker’s Internet arsenal as it tries to better confront Google , the leader in online search and advertising.

Creative industries are increasingly cited as one of the sectors likely to be a future source of jobs, innovation and productivity. Yet for local areas, faced with multiple calls for investment and tighter resource constraints, it can be difficult to know whether creative industries should be a priority for local investment.

The interest in photovoltaic technologies in California dates back further than most people would expect, starting at the turn of the 20th century when tens-of-thousands of homes in Southern California took advantage of the “California sunshine” to heat water for their homes. Fast forward to the 21st century and the establishment of statewide solar programs and government incentives lead to a budding photovoltaic industry. The graph of the growth of grid-connected capacity in California between 1990 and 2008 showcases the importance of incentives.

The Jack Of All Tradesmanagingmagic.com

VCs are jacks of all trades. © In the few weeks that I’ve been interning at a London based venture capital firm, already one thing is clear: a venture capitalist needs to be a jack of all trades, i.e. competent in many skills. Further, to be a really good VC – it is necessary to be master of a lot of these skills. Whereas a career in consulting might be a full time mostly soft-skills based career, or career in banking might be a full-time mostly quantitative-skills based career, a career in venture capital is a mixture of many things.

This is part of my ongoing series, “Pitching a VC” – the entire outline is here Whenever I sit on panels and discuss the topic of fund raising the topic of how to handle the discussion of valuation (e.g. how much you’re worth) always comes up. I have very fixed views on this topic although I’ve learned through these discussions that not everybody agrees with me.  Having sat on both sides of the table on many occasions – I’m pretty sure I’m right about this one ;-)  I know that the line of answering below mostly applies to 2009 (e.g.

MySpace has been taking quite a bit of heat lately for its stalling growth and waves of layoffs , but there are at least a few areas where the site has continued to do well, like MySpace Music , which still sees strong traffic. Now we’ve come across another under-recognized bright spot for MySpace: its Events platform, which has overtaken Evite , the web 1.0 startup that managed to gain a massive following despite a generally poor user experience, in terms of popularity.

Credit cards have nowadays insinuated themselves into all corners of our lives, and it is rare for an adult these days to not carry at least one card. As well as being used in the traditional manner to buy goods or services in person, they are also now used online, over the telephone, for writing checks, and even for withdrawing money from cash machines. People use them in all sorts of ways – as a means of borrowing, as a convenient payment method, and even for earning money through cashback or reward schemes.

Trendspotting at Casual Connect 09untoldentertainment.com

I’m back from Casual Connect in Seattle. It’s a smallish gaming conference for folks in the casual games space , which encompasses basically any game that isn’t a disc- or cartridge-based console (Xbox 360/Wii/PS3/DS/PSP) title. There’s a little bit of cross-over on the two leading handheld consoles, but most of the folks at the conference were either in the casual downloadable space, or inventing ways to take money from those people. It was my first time at the conference.

An Interview With a Diplomatvisualambassador.com
07/27/2009
We sat down recently with our Diplomat Jerry Duff and picked his brain for a few hours. Here’s what we discovered. How do you bridge the gap between left and right brain thinkers? As long as your goal is efficiency and not quality, the old impersonal way will work. The secret of innovation is divergence before the idea is completely formulated. Companies want a risk-less gamble, and there is no such thing. In any business, your key is choosing the right clients.

So by now you’ve seen the press release about reorganizing ATDC, VentureLab, and the SBIR Assistance Program under the single banner of ATDC. And that we’re throwing open the doors of ATDC to all technology entrepreneurs in Georgia. This is different . ATDC is almost thirty years old. (We’re going to have a thirty-year birthday bash next year; be sure to come!) And, throughout most of ATDC’s history, it’s been a very exclusive club. We usually get a couple of hundred applications a year, and usually accept about a dozen into membership.

For years, it has been fashionable to approach any problem by asking Jeff Jarvis’s question: “What would Google do?” But the most admired technology company in the world isn’t Google. It’s Apple . And when it comes to the most admired technology executive, Steve Jobs far outshines even the great Eric Schmidt. So why isn’t anyone asking “What would Steve do?” Perhaps it’s because the answer to that question flies in the face of everything we’ve held sacred over the last five years.

A lot of readers were incredulous over last week’s news that Ning raised another $15 million in venture capital from Lightspeed Venture Partners at a $750 million valuation. That comes despite the fact that Ning traffic appears to be flatlining, and revenue to date is likely very small. A typical comment to that post: “What an ASTOUNDING way to waste money.” Others pointed out that venture capitalists typically invest hoping to at least have a chance at a 10x return – and in Ning’s case, it seems unlikely that the company will be worth the necessary $7.5 billion any time soon.
